Technicians Paul Butterwick and Phil Reddington donning the 3D glasses in order to check the data captured by the Lava LCOS inter oral scanner.
After the dies have been isolated and the margins marked the files are then e-mailed to In-Tech laboratories in the USA where a Stereolithographical model is produced and shipped back to the lab.
While the model is being manufactured the dat from the digital impression is imported into the the Lava ST scanner and utilising the design software a substructure is designed.
After the substructure design is optimised that file is then e-mailed to a milling partner such as Tech-Ceram LTD.
After 48 hours from receiving the initial digital file from the surgery a CAD/CAM model and crown substructure arrive via courier.
The Ceramics department can then layer the substructure with the correct material.

Had a very busy few weeks and after a great evening presenting on Dental Implants to a lovely group of clinicians its home and packed ready for the early start tomorrow!!

We are really looking forward to the 3 days of lectures by some of the leading lights in implant dentistry.

A full report of the events will be posted in the very near future so keep posted!!

We will also be uploading the next part of the gonyX video soon also so lots to come!

Hopefully see lots of new and exiting things at the ITI so see you there!!

First Straumann Guided Surgery Placement!

Dr Craig Parker of Primley Park dentistry placed our first guided surgery implant today using the the Straumann system.

The Pre operative situation

This was the chosen site for implant placement the edentulous area at tooth position 46

“The Lab produced GonyX drilling stent in situ”

The Previously Lab manufactured scanning template was sent with the patient to 360 visualise a CBCT scanning facility where a scan was performed. This data was then imported into the Straumann CoDiagnostix software where Craig was able to plan the placement from a restoratively driven aspect whilst ensuring he was not getting too close to major anatomical structures.The software then produces various coordinates to be inputed into the GonyX device. The template was then placed back on the GonyX device to be transformed into the drilling stent ready for placement.

A tissue punch is used to access the site and then the drilling procedure takes place to prepare the site for the implant. This type of surgery has many benefits for the patient, because no flap has to be raised no sutures need to be placed which is much more comfortable for the patient.There is also less bleeding which makes it easier for the operator to asses the site.

The implant was perfectly placed in an area that can sometimes cause concern due to the close proximity of the Id nerve. This is another benefit of guided placement.

A post op X-ray was taken, this shows excellent placement into good bone giving excellent primary stability.

A great result for everyone involved and the patient was delighted with the whole procedure.

Straumann GonyX Scanning Templates

GonyX CBCT Scanning/Drilling Template Production (part 1)

Here is part 1 of a quick reference guide for the production of a CBCT scanning template.
The template is manufactured using the GonyX device (FIG 1) and is designed to be used as a Drilling Stent for Guided Implant placement in later stages of treatment.

FIG 2 shows a typical radiographic Stent
This Stent will form our basis for producing the scanning template on the GonyX platform

FIG 3 shows the scanning plate attached to the gonyX mounting plate. The plate has 3 Metal calibration pins located in a triangular formation.

The Standard radiographic stent is the attached to the scanning plate using a polymerisation (Cold Cure) acrylic. FIG 4

The radiographic stent with attached scanning plate is placed back onto the model and then mounted onto the gonyX platform. FIG5

The models are then mounted on a plaster free articulator FIG 6,
whilst the the radiographic stent and scanning plate are trimmed and polished FIG 7

The trimmed stent is placed on the articulated models FIG 8

then bite spots are ground in to the plate to give greater stability during the CBCT scan FIG 9

Finally a verification pin is placed into the scanning plate FIG 10 this is used to asses if any movement occurs during the CBCT scanning process.

The device is then sent to surgery for fit verification and is returned to the lab after the scan data has been imported into the Straumann CoDiagnostix software and the implant placements have been planned.

The scanning device is then converted into a drilling guide how to do this will be published in part 2.

LAVA LCOS Digital Impressions

Technicians David Mason and Paul Butterwick Began their training today on the LCOS (LAVA Chairside Oral Scanner)
They will now have to submit 15 test pieces to show the are fully capable of working with the system, once passed the lab will be able to receive digital impressions from any LCOS scanner in the country. You can ask for the 3M team to come and demonstrate the LCOS at your surgery just contact Phil for more information.

Here at Beever dental we like to keep a close eye on the latest developements and recently we have seen lots of developments.
We are pleased to announce our further commitment to future technologies by investing in 3 key areas.
1.we are no in a position to offer guided implant surgery solutions to our clients utilising both the CoDiagnostix software and the Gonyx device. This service also requires a CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) scan.
We have teamed up with Ryan at 360 visualise who can offer this service and much more utilising the latest devices from Kodak.
2. We have our Lava lcos (lava chair side oral scanner) software ready to go and our first lcos scanner about to be delivered to Primley Park Dentistry so we shall be receiving our first digital impressions very soon.
3. We are also investing in itero software which will mean we can receive digital impressions from all devices currently on the Market!

Three very exciting pieces of software/hardware helping us and our clients remain at the forefront of modern dentistry.

DAMAS Audit 2011

We had our DAMAS audit today and are pleased to announce we passed with NO non conformities thats pretty good going well done Jess for keeping the T,s crossed and the I,s dotted ;o)
the DAMAS audit insures we are adhering to guidelines set out by the MDD and is a similar audit to the dreaded QCQ audit that Dental surgeries undergo.
This is the 8th year we have completed this audit and have always had a very high standard of pass rate usually having 1 or 2 Minor non conformities this is the 4th time we have passed without a single bad mark ;o))))))

Dr Craig Parker of Primley Park Dentistry preparing for his morning presentation to be followed in the afternoon by 2 presentations by Phil Reddington of Beever Dental Technology

It took a long time to plan and a massive amount of work from Phil and Craig but it was worth it. Early feedback suggests all delegates found the day extremely informative.

The Day started with Craig talking the delegates through some of his early cases and highlighted how easy mistakes can be made if every aspect of the treatment is not thoroughly thought through.
After the break Craig continued by demonstrating the ITI sac tool (simple advanced complicated) which helps the implantologist decide the level of complexity of each case before any treatment begins.

Craig then followed up with a rapid slide show demonstrating GBR (guided bone regeneration) and soft tissue augmentation.

Then Phil gave a presentation on implants in the laboratory demonstrating the various ways in which the lab Technicians communicate with the surgeon to ensure optimum results.
Then Phil gave a second presentation on Digital dentistry and how the recent surge in technological developments has revolutionised how restorations are produced in the laboratory. other subjects covered were digital impressions and guided surgery.

The day was then completed with a quick demo of guided surgery utilising Straumanns CODiagnostix software.

I would like to Thank all the Staff at Mandec for being so helpful and to all the delegates for their contributions it was great to have the opportunity to chat to everyone at the evening dinner party.

All in all a great day!
